Citizenship workshop offered in Framingham Saturday

Projeto Nos Votamos will hold a U.S. citizenship workshop this Saturday at Saint Tarcisius Church on Waverly Street from 2 to 4 p.m.

The event, supported by the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition and the Ya Es Hora Ciudadania! Campaign, will help eligible legal permanent residents apply for U.S. citizenship. Local immigrant attorneys and other volunteers will be on hand to assist.

The workshop is part of Projeto Nos Votamos’s campaign to foster greater civic participation from the Brazilian-American community in Massachusetts.

Applicants must register by calling 508-534-VOTE and leaving their name, address and phone number. The workshop is open to all nationalities, but to apply for citizenship a person must be 18 years of age or older, a legal permanent resident for at least five years (three years if married to a U.S. citizen), and should be able to read, speak and write basic English, have a basic knowledge of U.S. history and government, and demonstrate good moral character.

Applicants must also bring their permanent residency card, Social Security card, state identification and any other supporting documents.

There is a $20 fee for the workshop, and all citizen applications must include a $675 money order.

For more information, applicants may call the number above or e-mail nosvotamos@verizon.net.
