Mock Interviews for Immigrants

SALINAS, Calif- Immigrants got a feel for the process to become U.S citizens. About 75 people showed up to Catholic Charities where U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services or USCIS hosted a free information session to help immigrants better understand the naturalization process.

People learned about the naturalization test, interviews, requirements, fees and eligibility. USCIS said it's important to reach out to the hispanic community because they may not know they qualify for citizenship.

"To help the people who need to know whether they qualify for citizenship and if they do, we tell them how it's done. We even act out the citizenship interviews so people will feel less intimidated by the prospect of them applying for themselves," said Sharon Rummery with USCIS.

Participants told Central Coast News the mock interviews made them feel at ease about going through the process.
